Holiday sources and date notes

Reference revision: October 27, 2026. The Calendar supports 2021–2035 for the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany and Japan.

Choose what to display

Public holidays, popular observances and cultural/religious dates have separate switches, available to everyone. Selected events are used consistently in the calendar and its print/PDF outputs. Existing paid print features remain separate. A date in several categories appears once when any of its categories is selected.

Country and region matter

The holiday country controls public holidays and country-specific observances. The sunrise/sunset city does not change the holiday country. Regional holidays retain their subdivision codes. US dates follow standard federal rules, not all state, local, workplace or one-off closures. Other public dates use the existing Nager.Date source. Check the applicable local authority when a closure or official date matters.

Popular observances

Halloween and Valentine's Day are observances, not automatically public holidays. Mother's and Father's Day use country-specific rules. The UK uses Mothering Sunday, three weeks before Western Easter. France uses the last Sunday in May, or the first Sunday in June when Pentecost coincides.

Cultural and religious dates

These are selected community observances, not an exhaustive religious calendar or declarations of nationwide public holidays. Western Easter and Orthodox traditions can differ. Lunar New Year uses the Chinese lunisolar first day; other new-year traditions differ.

Hanukkah is shown with an explicit sunset start followed by its eight daytime dates. Eid dates use a calculated Umm al-Qura reference and are labelled tentative: local moon sightings and announcements may differ. Diwali uses a regional India-reference main date; future dates are provisional and local traditions may choose a different day. Japanese Tanabata and Obon notes identify common dates and regional alternatives.

Reading your printed calendar

Observances and cultural dates include category labels. Long entries can move to a marked reference page rather than becoming unreadable. Tentative, sunset and regional notes should be checked before making plans. Public-holiday service failures are reported rather than silently substituted with a partial public-holiday list.
